Accessibility statement

Last updated 1 August 2026

I write about accessibility in my guides, so it would be poor form not to publish where this site actually stands. This is an honest account rather than a claim of perfection.

What this site aims for

This website aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the standard referenced by UK public sector regulations and the usual benchmark elsewhere.

  • Every page can be operated with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline.
  • Semantic landmarks and a "skip to content" link for screen reader users.
  • Form fields have real labels, and errors are announced and linked to the field.
  • Text contrast meets the AA thresholds against the dark background.
  • Animation is disabled entirely if your system is set to reduce motion.
  • A higher-contrast palette is used if your system asks for increased contrast.
  • Layout works down to 320px and at 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling.

Known limitations

Being straight about the gaps is more useful than claiming there are none.

The before/after comparison slider
It works with a keyboard using the arrow keys, and the surrounding text explains what it demonstrates. But it is a visual comparison, and someone who cannot see it gets less from it than someone who can.
Dark theme only
There is currently no light mode. For most people with low vision the dark, high-contrast palette helps, but it is not a universal preference and a light option would be better.

Telling me about a problem

If any part of this site is difficult to use, email harry@smiths-seo.co.uk and tell me what happened and what you were trying to do. I will reply within a few working days and fix what I can. If you need information from this site in another format, ask and I will send it.

If you are not satisfied with how I respond, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service, which advises on discrimination in services.

How this was assessed

Tested with automated tooling (Lighthouse and axe), keyboard-only navigation, and at reduced-motion and increased-contrast settings. Last reviewed 1 August 2026. It has not been through a formal third-party audit — if it ever is, this page will say so.
